Koehler was a retired dean and professor of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. Koehler is survived by wife Vivian; sons Gary and Robert; sisters Ruth Collyer, Selma Harbour and Dorothy Reed; and four grandchildren. No services.

She also taught in Pohnpei, Japan and American Samoa and was a Fulbright grant recipient at Cornwall College, Montego Bay, Jamaica. Survived by stepson, Ross Reed; stepdaughter, Marcia Reed Whythes; sisters, Ruth Collyer and Selma Harbour; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Service 5 p.m. Wednesday at Atherton Chapel, Central Union Church. No flowers. Aloha attire. Donations to Waikiki Aquarium or charity of choice.

Ruth Koehler Collyer, 93, of North East, passed away Friday, September 5, 2008 at Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge. She was born on March 18, 1915 in Pittsburgh, Pa. a daughter of the late Julius and Martha Kasak Koehler. Ruth was a member of Park United Methodist Church in North East, Pa. She was a primary education teacher for 39 years, having retired in 1972 from the North East School District after 36 years. Ruth was a member of the PA Association of School Retirees and a Life Member of the National Education Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Collyer in 1997, one brother, Wilbert Koehler and three sisters, Mildred Knappke, Martha Orton and Dorothy Reed. Ruth is survived by a sister, Selma Harbour of Anchorage, Alaska. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, (9 from the Koehler family alone) and many dear friends. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, Pa. on Thursday at 7 P.M. Rev. Dr. Mark E. Hecht will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. Lake St., North East, Pa.
